Featured Photographer – Joe Grey (Fotozon)

It’s time for another featured photographer and today we have Joe Grey. Joe is the creator of Fotozon, a website for sharing and showing photos of Taiwan. It features a picture of the day section that includes code so that others can show it on their sites. I’ve had it in the sidebar of this site for a while now.

6. Who/What are your photographic influences, if any?
Ansel Adams, and National Geographic.

7. How would you describe your photographic style, and how has it evolved over the years?
I used to take a lot of time to line up the shot when I was shooting film, but now I just take a bunch of angles with the Digital Camera and go home to select the best one. I used to be more into scenery and objects, but I now try to include people in my photos as much as possible.
Ω

8. What is your system for backing up digital files?
I’m pretty lazy with that.. I usually save files on two seperate computers and sometimes save all my files to a cd. Of course I upload photos every few days to my web site too for remote storage.

9. What is your general “workflow” like?
Work Flow!! This is supposed to be fun… Shoot, Edit a little bit, and upload to Foto Album.
Ω

10. Do you prefer to shoot RAW or JPG and why?
I just stick with the basic jpeg, because most photos are destined for the web anyways, and I just don’t know enough about editing to really make it worthwhile to mess around with converting the formats.

Ω

11. Anything else you want to say.
I’ve always been interested in photography, but recently this interest has kicked up a notch due to the launch of my web site, http://fotozon.com/ . It’s a hobby on the side, and it has proven to be a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. I’ve also been maintaining the Taiwan Picture of the Day (http://fotozon.com/daily/taiwan/ ) and I hope to branch out in the future to add a few more “photos of the day”, after I find a few more partners to work with and more contributors.
