Tour de Taiwan 2008 – Stage 7

Stage 7 of the Tour de Taiwan saw riders engaged in a 58km criterium made up of 40 laps in the streets around the new Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. The newly built exhibition center was holding its first event, the Taipei Cycle Show. An action packed stage, featuring fast racing, a number of breakaways and numerous crashes, was won by Kam Po Wong of the Hong Kong Pro Cycling Team, giving him his second stage win of the tour.

The race was marred by a crash with 10 laps to go that saw Herwin Jaya of the Polygon Sweet Nice Racing Team taken to hospital. The race had to be temporarily stopped for 15 minutes while EMTs assisted Jaya.

After the restart, Kam Po Wong initiated a breakaway that saw him go on to take the stage win.

The tight battle for the blue jersey for top Asian rider between Japanese riders Taiji Nishitani of AISAN RacingTeam and Takashi Miyazawa of Team Meitan Hompo-GDR ended with Nishitani on top, giving him the blue jersey for the fourth time.
