Tina in Taipei

I recently had the chance to shoot some portfolio photographs for a young Swedish model, Tina. Tina is a Masters student and is hoping to be able to make a little extra money over the summer as a model. To do that, she needed a portfolio, so we set a time and place and spent a couple of hours making some images. Remember, you can click on the images for a larger size or to move them around the screen.

Tina arrived late morning and we went into a small park nearby for the shoot. She had three different outfits and we made our way through the park taking different shots.

For a small park, there were quite a few different settings and we tried to make use of them all.

A quick change of clothes and it was time for some shots out in the sun. I had to bring a second speedlight out for these but thankfully was still able to keep the power settings low, meaning less time wasted waiting for batteries to be ready.

My fiancee/studio manager Selina arrived and had some fresh suggestions for poses. I backed out a bit and decided to include the lights so you could get an idea of the setup.

After a bit of a break, we did a few single light close up shots.

A final change into the third outfit for a few shots, but we were all getting pretty hot and thirsty under the early afternoon sun, so we wrapped it up without taking a lot of photos.

Shooting Details – All photos were shot with a Canon 5D Mark II and 70-200mm L lens at ISO ranging from 50 to 400.  Shutter speed was left at 1/200 and aperture was mostly f4 or f5.6. I did stop it right down to f11 and f16 for a few frames as well. Lighting was a mixture of ambient and either 1 or 2 speedlights on stands with white shoot-thru umbrellas. Flash power varied, usually 1/4 or 1/8 but occasionally a stop either side. As always, the lights were triggered by the ever reliable Elinchrom Skyports.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post. Feel free to share it with your friends and social media networks, leave a comment or give me a retweet. Thank you.

    Great set…#3 is very anime-like.

With hair like that and black eyeliner, why not more b&w? Can you email me one or two to play with in P&S? Not for publishing, just to play with levels & b&w. Your choice on what image.

    Thanks!

Yeah, these work quite well in b&w. I\'ll email you a couple later tonight. Thanks for the comment.
