Help Portrait, Taipei

Help Portrait is a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate this holiday season. This will be a global event and I’ll be setting up a local version here in Taipei on Saturday December 12th.

This is the call to photographers, make-up artists, stylists, social workers, people with equipment, people with time and anyone who is interested. At this stage, I’m seeking expressions of interest from anyone who wants to be involved. Here’s a short video from photographer Jeremy Cowart who explains more about it.

If you have any ideas that will help us on the day here in Taipei, please let me know. Any and all suggestions are welcome. We’re looking for groups to shoot for, venues, donors and so forth.

More general information can be found at http://www.help-portrait.com and on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/help_portrait

Feel free to share this with anyone you think might be interested. Thank you.

  1. I'm interested if I can bring my 4×5. On a personal note as someone who was adopted, perhaps we can organize with a local orphanage? The orphanage could then use the resulting images to aid in getting foster care for the orphans.

    Just a thought. :)

4×5 would be cool, as would helping orphans. We were thinking of approaching someone like Eden Social Welfare and arranging something through them (or a similar group).

  3. How strange. I was just chatting with Marcus a few weeks ago about getting a blogger charity event set up. We both thought that getting involved with an orphanage or with underprivileged students might be a great way to contribute to the community. Neither one of us has had the time to talk about it further, so this seems like a very good opportunity. Since we all seem to be moving around in the same circles with the same ideas, perhaps we should arrange a meet-up to discuss it further? Maybe Yuma sometime in the next week or two? How is your schedule these days? I'm got a pretty flexible schedule in the evenings.

If everyone is talking about it the time must be right. At the moment, lunchtime Fri and Sunday afternoon/evening are about the only free time I have.

Thanks Marcus. Tuesday isn't good for me – actually for the next couple of weeks I'm not very free in the evenings at all.
