There shouldn't be a debate, but there are still people who believe that a camera-derived JPEG is higher quality than RAW. Or they believe that RAW = Photoshop and they don't do Photoshop.

Is there still a debate over this? It seems pretty clear-cut. I would like to see a standard RAW format – maybe that would get the naysayers fully behind it.

Yes, this is true. I sometimes go back to old shots from when I first started with digital and process them with today's technology. It gives a whole new lease of life to some of them.
