Another month has rolled around and it’s once again time for a new desktop calendar. This month’s comes from Nepal and what was somewhat of an aborted morning of photography. We’d headed up to Nagarkot on the ridge above the Kathmandu Valley in order to get up and photograph the sunrise over the Himalayas. The Gods of weather weren’t really with us for the sunrise part of things though as a heavy cloud cover moved in and we didn’t get so much as a glimpse of either the sun or the snow-covered mountains. However, once you’ve gotten up before dark on a cold, misty morning and seen your photography plans disappear you’re only left with two choices. Either go back to bed or go for a walk and see what you can see. I took the latter and wandered off around the hillside, finding a narrow trail that led part way down towards a village below. Although the fog was still covering most things up high, there were patches of light shining underneath it briefly and this was the result.
As always, there are a variety of sizes for you to choose from. And below is the same image without the calendar which can be licensed, purchased as a fine art print and shared.

Happy New Year.
A new year means a new month which means a new desktop calendar. January’s photograph is one I created a few days ago at a beach a short distance from my apartment. It was pretty cold down there but on the plus side, I had the beach completely to myself and the conditions were right for some black and white landscape photography.
As always, select the size(s) you want and save them to your computer.

It’s hard to believe that 2011 is almost over. As we head into the last month of the year, it’s time for the twelfth free desktop calendar of 2011. Cleaning Buddha comes from Bodhnath Stupa in Nepal. Custodians circulate the upper level splashing yellowish colored water over the white stupa in a ritual end to the day’s cleaning. Hit the links below for the size(s) you want.

]]>Another month has rolled around which means it’s time for another desktop calendar. September was a quiet month of shooting other than client work with most of my other time taken up with the less exciting parts of life as a professional photographer. Still I managed to fit in a few days of general shooting including a short hike up to a viewpoint overlooking the Taipei basin. The mountain in the distance is Guanyinshan. As always, links are below.
]]>This month’s free desktop wallpaper comes from the courtyard of the Miaokou Temple in Keelung, Taiwan. I was drawn to the colors here – the reds of the lanterns, the blue sky and the paler blue of the woman’s umbrella. As usual, click on the size you want and then when the image opens, right click and save. Enjoy.
]]>This month’s free desktop calendar features a Taiwanese Chinese opera performer from a recent festival. As usual, the desktop comes in a number of different sizes so choose the one that best suits you.

]]>This month’s free desktop calendar is ready for you to download in a choice of 8 different sizes. This photograph comes from a recent trip to Yilan, Taiwan on assignment for a regional travel magazine. After I’d got the shots I needed for the magazine article there was still some daylight left so I was able to shoot a few coastal landscape images. The links to the desktop sizes are below. Underneath those is the same image without the calendar. During the month of May you can buy it as a fine art print or canvas gallery wrap and if you use the code BLUETAIWAN you can have a 30% discount. Prices start from $25. The watermark that appears on the onscreen version will not be on the print.
If you’re a working photographer or an aspiring professional photographer you won’t want to miss Clarion Call 2 taking place in June. I’ll have more details soon but for now you can reserve your place with this link. The first Clarion Call was wildly successful so get in early for the second version.
]]>This month’s free desktop calendar is ready for you to download in a choice of 8 different sizes. I’ve reached back into the archives for an unpublished photograph this month. This image was taken in 2006 just after dawn at the East Mebon temple in Cambodia. Dating from the 10th century, it was constructed during the reign of King Rajendravarman and is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.
Why did I reach back into my archives for this? The simple answer is that it was a bit of an experiment. When shooting on that particular trip, I bracketed a lot of the shots 2 stops apart in order to give me more options come processing time. I’d originally processed this as an HDR photograph using the software available at the time (late 2006) but wasn’t happy with the results so I scrapped it. I have a policy of never deleting anything (hard drive storage is cheap so why delete) so when I was trying a few things out using the wonderful Nik HDR Efex Pro the other day, I decided to give some of these Cambodia photographs another go. I had this looking pretty good straight away using one of the presets, so brought it back into Lightroom. After a little extra consideration, I opened it in Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0 and applied a skylight filter to give it a hint of color.
Anyway, here are the links to the various sizes. Hope you enjoy this month’s image.
